Festival Park, Basildon

One of Essex’s most popular leisure destinations underwent a major refurbishment including the creation of an outside event space, new flooring and glass in the main entrance as well as updated shop fronts.

We were initially approached to assess the existing specification of floor tile as there were concerns over the surface finish and how well it would clean. Customer safety is paramount in a high footfall area like this, so we worked extensively with one of our suppliers, our technical team and the main contractors to ensure the right balance of slip resistance and ease of maintenance was achieved.

The main floor tile used was our Lido 600x600mm bone in the soft finish which is rated PTV 36+. This was combined with a wood-effect tile sourced specifically for the project. The floor design involved a circular pattern in the main entrance to mirror the glass roof feature above. One of our waterjet cutting partners produced detailed drawings for sign-off as well as a laying plan for the tiling contractors to follow. Each physical tile was labelled with a reference that could be found on the plan to make it as straightforward as possible to fit.

The finished look is fresh, modern and welcoming for the leisure park’s many loyal customers.
