The Silk District is a residential development by Mount Anvil in Whitechapel, London E1. The scheme comprises three buildings – the Jacquard, the Georgette and the Bouchon – and offers Studio, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments, each designed to be light-filled and calm. The development is a flow of tall towers, lower-lying buildings and landscaped gardens to create a sense of community.
The team at Mount Anvil had an initial concept in mind for the tiles as they wanted to introduce a touch of Italian influence with a terrazzo effect option. We worked closely with one of our manufacturers, with the Mount Anvil team visiting the factory to develop a bespoke design that met their expectations in terms of design but also had high slip resistance so could be used in the bathrooms and dining/living areas. Two colourways were produced, a more subtle white terrazzo for most of the specification and a grey option to give the en-suites a different look. The result is a terrazzo tile that delivers on both its style and technical characteristics.
Our Vista20 grey slate outdoor tile is used on the balconies and we also supplied a white linear tile for the kitchen splashback and tiles for the shared ownership and affordable aspects of the project.
